A hard-up ex-accountant gets a mysterious new job transcribing taped phone conversations in this French political thriller.
Suspense drives the (violent at times) plot and ultimately all the loose ends are satisfyingly tied up.
The insularity and scaled-down political intrigue of Scribe limit its impact and is representative of a slightly misguided film trying too hard to be something it can't quite become.
This is an intelligent, efficient 70's style thriller that weaves an inspired narrative fabric.
This stylish French political thriller has a strong sense of atmosphere, but fails to deliver on its initial promise.
The film is intended as a screenplay and an atmospheric exercise that uses its characters as mere puppets in the hands of an invisible Leviathan. Hence, relations are established on a small scale. [Full review in Spanish]
Solvent political thriller, tempered by the presence of the untouchable François Cluzet. [Full review in Spanish]
Assiduously controlled and impeccably played, this cunningly convoluted thriller keeps both the protagonist and the viewer guessing until the slickly cynical climax.
The unfolding series of menacing conversations and violent twists doesn't add up to much.
It starts to feel far-fetched and the plot never quite adds up.
The ominous chill of the sound design and decent work from an impressive cast help to create an atmosphere that sucks the very oxygen from the cinema as the tension mounts.
Very little is memorable outside of the cinematography and sound design.
