Kevin P @RT55971421 Feb 8 A gorgeously animated modern day fairytale about the ocean, shapeshifters, and handling grief. I love the beautiful stylish animation inspired by Irish mythology about the ocean and seals. The move has such gorgeous colors and ocean scenery. The main character Ben is very irritating and a bully to his mute little sister Saoirse. Ben gets better over time, but his "arc" feels a little unearned and too easy, and his personality is rather dull. Thankfully, everything else is perfect, from the artwork to every side character. I love all the magical creatures pulled straight form Irish folklore. Saoirse herself is adorable and really likable, even if she never talks until the very end. I love the unique creatures from Irish folklore, like the owl snatchers or the long-haired bearded man of the cave. The climax is visually stunning and heartbreakingly bittersweet. It's a beautiful and passionate animated movie that only stumbles with its main protagonist, but excels in everything else.
