Vinicius M @Vini_Monteiro May 9 The 1970s animated short Where the Wild Things Are is a fascinating, if imperfect, adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic. Its biggest strength is how accurately it replicates Sendak’s unmistakable art style, carrying massive nostalgic value. More importantly, it brilliantly captures the story's psychological depth. The monsters aren't just scary creatures; they're a visual metaphor for Max's untamed anger. By taming them, Max learns to control his own intense emotions, making the film a brave exploration of childhood rage and the need to belong. However, the short shows its age technically. Budget constraints mean the animation is basic, often relying on camera pans over static drawings. The audio is also divisive; Peter Schickele's narration and score feel dreamlike to some, but monotonous and creepy to others. Despite these flaws, its thematic maturity and respect for the original book make it a classic worth revisiting. See more 03/20/2011 Yes, Steve Vai still shreds like it's 1989. Yes, he strapped a fan on a stage monitor so his hair would blow like, well, Beyonce. Yes, it's 2+ hour show filled with ridiculously fast-played music. The guy still has a sense of humor though and perhaps more importantly, hasn't lost that child-like curiosity and enthusiasm which made every guitar kid in the world fell for him more than twenty years ago. ;^) The hot violinist was a nice touch.
