Movie Info

Ulla's daughter and a young family friend have been paying her a visit where she lives, alone, on a rugged island in the Baltic Sea. But when they depart and Ulla is left to return to her everyday, she discovers her quiet corner of the world disrupted by the arrival of a shadowy deer hunter. The Anchorage is a work of restraint and patience and simple, meditative beauty. Shot in 2006 (but not released until 2009) with a skeleton crew on location in the Stockholm Archipelago, directors C.W. Winter and Anders Edström have made a rigorously assertive film that resists categorization. It plays equally off traditions of the folk ballad, noise, and field recording. And as a portrait of its protagonist, Ulla, the film is an ode to strength and grace. "The wind bloweth where it listeth." -- (C) Official Site

The Anchorage collects and uses a variety of stylistic devices that arguably originate with the European art house, and discovers meaningful, thoughtful ways to put them to work.
