What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

It looked quite lovely and is really for little kids -- even more than the first one. Go to Full Review

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie settles for moments of visual inspiration that replicate the little rushes of opening up new worlds in one of the games, while letting almost every character stagnate into bland affability Go to Full Review

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is undoubtedly a visual assault—and whether that’s appealing or revolting is up to the individual—but there’s no denying the creativity and energy on display. Go to Full Review

While it's not the worst of the malignant jollities we've been given as family films recently, it's not good. Go to Full Review

What follows is essentially Harold and the Purple Crayon crossed with a Star Wars/Austin Powers-esque saga of fathers, sons, sisters and brothers, which strangely sidelines Mario, is overly reliant on montages and simply lacks the original's verve. Go to Full Review

Visually, it infuses long-awaited sequences with a surprising amount of style... What undoes a lot of this is simply how little depth there is to these characters. Go to Full Review

Mickey 2h Surprisingly good movie See more Rodney 13h Not as fun as the first. Clunky plot. Hope they can recreate the magic from the first one See more Belen 14h I really enjoyed watching Mario and Luigi team up once again to save the galaxy, and Peach discovering her past as well and why was she left alone when she was little. The best part about the movie that made it even better was Yoshi, he is a character to be seen. I loved every minute that Yoshi appeared in the movie and special because I played Mario Bros. When I was little and watching the movie makes me thinking back to my childhood. I definitely recommend watching the movie, it was funny, sad, exciting, and overall they achieved what they set out to do. See more Kita 14h I absolutely loved the movie! my husband and boys loved it too. my kids sat still and watched the whole thing!! See more Josh 16h I loved every bit of it and my lady loved it too except she slept through the first 30 minutes of the movie but she still loved it looking forward to seeing it again some other time loved it as much as the original. See more shaiders 17h Must watch for every gamer See more Read all reviews
