Ted's dream prom date with Mary never happens due to an embarrassing injury at her home. Years later, Ted hires Pat Healy to track down Mary so he can reconnect with her. Pat lies to Ted about Mary, and he finds out everything he can about her to trick her into dating him. Ted travels to meet Mary and has to weave through the web of lies that Pat and Mary's friend Tucker have woven to try and win her over.

Paul S @PaulSmith 2d One of the funniest movies ever made. Physical comedy in TSAM is elevated to artistic expression of the highest order. One stand out scene after another, so much so that it's hard to pick a favourite. Matt Dillon reignites his career after a few misses. Stiller has never been better. Every performance is spot on. Ted (Ben Stiller, right) and best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) prepare to get in even more trouble. Cameron Diaz as Mary unknowingly sports a zany hairdo, the result of using some unusual "gel." In front of an astonished Mary (Cameron Diaz), Ted (Ben Stiller) gets the hook. Ted (Ben Stiller, right) confronts the back-stabbing Pat (Matt Dillon). As a worried Mary (Cameron Diaz) looks on, Ted (Ben Stiller) is carried to an ambulance after an accident involving his "family jewels." Mary (Cameron Diaz) and Pat (Matt Dillon) enjoy an evening out. As his girlfriend's parents (Keith David and Markie Post) look on, a young Ted (Ben Stiller, left) gets some help when his "family jewels" are caught in his zipper.
