This is not challenging cinema by any measure, but for audiences craving something gentle and pleasant it certainly hits the spot. Go to Full Review

[Yamada] deserves credit for prioritizing the small trials and victories of everyday people... But everyone has a sob story; it’s the telling that matters. Go to Full Review

The film takes you roughly where you expect. The surprise is that, by the end, the familiar road still feels worth travelling. Go to Full Review

Tokyo Taxi might very well be Yoji Yamada’s last narrative and, if so, he has delivered an incredibly touching swansong for cinephiles to savour. Go to Full Review

Mark C @RT46032481 Sep 20, 2026 Entirely predictable and mellow, but sincerely produced. Would have been easily 2 star if not for the fact that I still like starring at Takuya Kimura's face. See more Leprechaun K @LeprechaunKing Aug 22, 2026 Not the usual Kimura romantic comedy. It is heartwarming but predictable. Still an enjoyable watch. See more Rangga P @Ranggasaurus Jun 27, 2026 The film is primarily set through conversations between a driver and his passenger. However, it presents a series of flashbacks filled with different emotions. The main story is quite simple: an elderly woman wants to enjoy her final journey before moving into a new home. Every place they pass holds a story from her past, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood. She carries burdens closely tied to women's issues and feminism, including an unwanted pregnancy, domestic violence, and a mother's love for her child. These experiences are portrayed as products of a different era. Meanwhile, the driver carries anxieties commonly associated with masculinity. He struggles with financial problems, family responsibilities, and overwhelming bills. Pressured by circumstances beyond his means, he seeks a solution despite his doubts. The story ultimately ends with the driver's regret over the decision he made regarding the old woman. See more Rosie D. @Rosieeeee Apr 14, 2026 It’s like a middle-aged Howl picking up an elderly Sophie for one last ride. To be honest, Kimura is still giving us the same one-note performance he’s been doing for decades, but the movie is just so damn atmospheric. The director wraps the whole story in such warmth and romance that it’s hard to care. From the everyday bustle of the Shitamachi area to the glowing harbor lights, the visuals are so healing they make you completely overlook the clichés. 3.9/5🥹 See more Maximilian C @Maxi-dixie-normous Jan 9, 2026 A Sentimental Pleaser!
