Perhaps the longest and most gruelling movie I've sat through in the last 10 years. Like the Passion of the Christ, but as an American war survivor. Torture porn, pure and simple.
Every American should have to watch this!
Vast amounts of violence in a predictable script with few surprises. American values say a bare female breast isn't suitable for children but violence like this is OK, PG 13. I say, "Just say no to American values."
I don't find many war movies to be inspirational, but the level of survival depicted is just that
Captivating and intense. A touching true life story
An overall powerful fact-based drama with terrific performances, and fine storytelling. Grade: B+
The movie becomes interesting after the protagonist is captured by the Japanese. It is never explained why the Japanese sergeant is obsessed with torturing the protagonist. Well filmed and boring
Undoubtedly a man without reproach, but the picture is all over the place ? Read the book and Jolie takes more than a few poetic liberties. I thought Miyavi was awful, how do you translate HAM into Shinto ? Biggest bug bear : you are adrift of life rafts, with scurvy, sun burn and various legions...how do two of them manage to cultivate goatee beards ??
The book and actual story are astounding. I don't know how you can mess this up, but they did. Really a rather flat film.
This movie is probably now my favorite movie of all time, the story is told amazingly and it actually has a happy ending. I cannot say anything to justify how much love this movie deserves I loved the part when they were in the ocean, it really felt like I was there. I would recommend this to anyone at all it was amazing.
