It's pretty, and occasionally it taps into a feeling that approaches profundity. However, those moments are not enough...

Blanchett's narration is a constant barrage of inane interrogations caught in the abstract. It's as if she's signing postcards to Mother Nature and just flinging them into oblivion.

It is a bit heady and purposefully experimental in its formal structure or lack there-of, but Paul Atkins' jaw-dropping nature cinematography and Malick's expansive vision of life's creation is wholly original, if lovably harebrained.

Now that he's making drivel, Malick can't stop himself from churning them out, which, a theory goes, is why they're drivel.

At 45 minutes, Voyage of Time genuinely feels compact and too short, but at the same time, a 90 minute version would've outstayed its welcome and hurt its impact.

Problems deplete the film's energy and interrupt its brilliance - but it is brilliant, at least in snatches. Malick does not need to be on top form in order to dazzle and delight.

This version... bogged down as it is by insipid narration and a punishing running length, makes this Voyage of Time a trip not worth taking.

The elusive and suddenly quite prolific Terrence Malick is fascinated, and beguiled, by nothing less than the legacy of all existence in his long-gestating, avant-nature doc.

A visually dense treat for lovers of Malick's brand of philosophical cinema.

Voyage of Time may not be one of Malick's richest works, but, more so than with Knight of Cups, it offers a reminder of why his consistently awed perspective remains as valuable to cinema as ever.

Like a feature-length artist's rendition of the known universe.
September 13, 2016
A product designed with images that evoke the existentialism to move a passive spectator that doesn't think about the content of the film. [Full review in Spanish]

I can hear some of your rolling your eyes all the way from here, but if anyone is going to take you on said voyage, let it be a filmmaker as skilled as Terrence Malick.
September 12, 2016
Voyage of Time acknowledges that Terrence Malick's fussy editing can only suggest meanings to that which will outlive anyone's interpretation.
September 10, 2016
Gorgeous imagery pondering our existence can only sustain so much of a film's runtime when the thematic undercurrent is this simple. Even the most devoted Malick fan may find himself or herself bored to tears by Voyage of Time: Life's Journey.
September 9, 2016
So pompous that it's wide open to satire.
September 9, 2016
Malick's feature-length expansion of The Tree Of Life's creation-and-evolution sequence is absolutely gorgeous and utterly tedious.
September 8, 2016
It's an experience that I haven't been able to shake, like a waking dream.
September 8, 2016
A film that has an amazing photography but especial effects still a problem for Malick. [Full review in Spanish]
