See more Ксения К Nov 27 What We Do in the Shadows is a 2014 New Zealand mockumentary comedy horror film written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The film's plot concerns several vampires who live together in a house in Wellington. A documentary crew follows four old vampires housemates - Viago, Vladislav, Deacon and Petyr and shows their routine in nowadays. Vampires live together, solve household problems, try to integrate into modern world and try to live peacefully together. One day they meet a man Nick, and vampires accidentally make him a vampire too. Because Nick is a modern man, he can't understand vampires "rules" living in the shadow and makes other vampire's lives crazy. I think, it's a hilarious film for making your mood better. There are very colorful characters which acted by famous stars. Also there is a subtle humor that is really suitable in any enjoyable situations in film. I think, film-makers did a good job, because there is everything perfect: starring, locations, soundtrack. Overall, What We Do in the Shadows is a quite funny and relaxing movie. See more Donavin D @Hiyromedia Nov 3 What we do in the shadows is what happens when the television show The Office, meets occult vampirism and the funniest people to come out of New Zealand. The film’s plot can be scattered at times but the moment to moment jokes, set pieces and characters are all so endearing and consistently hilarious that I can’t help but be glued firmly to the screen the entire time. This film has one of my favorite ensemble casts, every awkward silence or cheesy vampire themed joke is delivered with overflowing sincerity that I can’t help but laugh — Taika Waititi, who both directs and stars as Viago, portrays himself and the rest of the vampires as if they were just ordinary guys who occasionally happen to do something horrifically evil. The found footage style helps cement the dry humor and the awkward, dirty imperfection of it all. The film focuses on the almost mundane day to day life of what its like to be a vampire living with other vampire roommates — bickering over decades of dirty dishes being left to rot and fester, passive aggressive comments about properly cleaning up after their murders and working together in clunky new ways to attract prey. The story also features rivalries with other mystical creatures: werewolves, but these are the weaker portions of the film to the point where I forget that they are in the film until every new viewing. The film shines when it focuses on our main cast just being terribly obvious vampires trying to live day to day, each performance is funny and over the top and incredibly well written and performed by some of the best talent in the industry — this film reminds me why I love Taika Waititi so much. Its comedic interpretation of roommate vampires, corny jokes, mundane issues and laugh out loud performances always gets me to smile from ear to ear while watching and I can never get enough. While the overarching story is a bit weaker when compared to that moment to moment perfection, it’s a consistently entertaining story that sinks its fangs into you but asks politely first. But, over the years, through their numerous weaknesses, they are less things to be feared, and more things to be pitied. The premise of making a true to life film that documents their struggles is an idea with a lot of potential. Despite the documentary being about vampires, Stu steals the show.
