Frans B @FransB Apr 27 I loved it. Amazing cinematography and definitely creates period correct atmosphere. The whole cast is great in character. Energetic and enough action with occasional twists and turns. Aura Garrido will be going places in future, great actress. As for the protagonist Marina, she has got to be the worse detective ever she put everyone in danger all to satisfy her ego. An unlikable character her behavior throughout put everything at risk. They made this heroine to impower, but she was more annoying then anything. She really was just a rich kid running around for a thrill. At multiple points I couldn’t connect with her. It’s a good show but as women I didn’t believe for a second she was a strong independent woman when she found herself in danger she had to be rescued. It has a very light hearted feel about it even though it's about the murder of many women… in this respect it's saved by the main characters fight against sexism she faces in her personal life and from wider society. She desperately wants to find the killer, with a passion the men don't show, including her sexist brother. However, as stated in another review, Spain would not have been as normal as portrayed due to the Spanish civil war, and the second ww which should have been represented in some way. Spain for a long time wiped the civil war from its history, with many younger generations knowing nothing about it. Therefore I feel programme makers have a duty to reflect its existence and the brave fight Spanish people fought against fascism. See more alan d 11/07/2022 Spain in the 1940s was not a happy place. After nearly 3 years of a civil war which ended in 1939 with over half a million dead and World War 2 engulfing the Europe, Bilbao would not be the chic metropolis we see in A Private Affair. Although Spain was neutral in WW2, the country was bankrupt and bankrolled by Nazi Germany for mining resources. This is a sanitised history. See more Read all reviews
