R T @MaggieZad Jan 20 Our leading detective has returned home to investigate the deaths of both her father and her mother as we can't have just one murder investigation to do. Her mother goes from being her best friend to acting as her enemy. We have the usual Māori people as actors but here they actually speak the language and we have no clue what they are saying. And to make matters even dumber, our lead detective speaks Spanish and Russian of all things and can interpret what people are saying in those languages. And we have not one but two love interests for our flailing detective so of course she has to go and sleep with one of the witnesses to a criminal investigation. Then of course she has to go and confess this to the pathologist who is interested in her. She has a "moral" compass of course and needed to tell someone what she had done even saying it was great sex but now feels guilty about it???? . I hear there's a second series coming. Examples: A suspect was allowed to escape twice resulting in injury of two police officers and a citizen. An officer was allowed to grill her father's convicted killer. Etc. And the "romance" storyline was goofy. The main character had her choice of two tasty-cakes and she instead chose a dalliance with a street person because she didn't want emotional "strings." The series ending left this viewer saying, "What happened?" Stunning New Zealand scenery triggers my travel itch. But I thought 4 episodes was a pretty cheap disappointing season that really left me hanging in a very unsatisfying way. If a second Season is not a certainty then the dramatic inconclusive ending of episode 4 is doubly obnoxious.. Even if a season 2 is certain I think making viewers wait a year for the rest of the story makes me feel very annoyed. Surely they could have managed a 6 or 8 episode season and a more complete story line. There were still plenty of plot threads and characters left to develop and sustain viewer interest in a second 2nd season. As of now this a compelling series that left me feeling gypped.
