Critic Reviews for Alternatino With Arturo Castro Season 1
All Critics (15) | Top Critics (10) | Fresh (14) | Rotten (1)
Castro's charisma and range go a long way.
The host may not be as versatile as Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, but his sketch ideas... make up for his limited arsenal of impersonations.
[Arturo Castro] takes what he's learned navigating life as a Latin millennial in the U.S. -- and then adds in robots, dad energy and border patrol officers, to hilarious effect.
Alternatino isn't yet as sharp as Key & Peele or Inside Amy Schumer, but it's on the right track in its first season.
The series demonstrates the usual season one unevenness, but [Arturo] Castro's strongest sketches are the ones where he grasps acts of cultural appropriation, racism and bias by the horns and gives them a good shake.
In "Alternatino," Castro's finely tuned and wide-ranging sense of humor is on full display.
Ugly topics like this are, arguably, the ones that comedy should be taking on, but when the bits don't work it's rough. When they do click, however, there's a satisfying jolt.
Arturo Castro's hilarious sketch comedy mixes the personal and the political, this week including an opening spoof on immigration and a bit where a climate change trade agreement dissolves among a not-so-United Latin Nations.
Sharp satire, some language in hilarious Latinx sketch show.
Overall, Alternatino with Arturo Castro is a worthy summer watch.
All around personable in his performance, Castro seems more comfortable in sketch-land than the plotlines. His comedic performance never disappoints, ranging from good to great.
A funny, fresh comedy half-hour, "Alternatino" offers some welcome laughs amid the drama-heavy diet of summer TV.

Nov 23, 2019Best comedy sketch series I've watched in a very long time. Arturo is super charismatic and the humor is light-hearted, even though it often dwells on tricky subjects. I really enjoyed this first season.

Jul 12, 2019The first episode is absolutely hilarious all the way through. Subsequent episodes have their moments, but are not consistently funny. I still like this show.
-
Jul 03, 2019Typical, High RT ratings = boring/bad. Its not funny, badly written and totally underwhelming. It always feels like there are onto something funny only to fall flat down into lame land. Waste of time
