Critic Reviews for Baby Season 1

All Critics (5) | Top Critics (1)

Baby is neither proudly trashy enough to completely own a status as guilty pleasure, nor nuanced enough to get by on quality. It's simply entertaining enough for the six-episode first season to zip by.

Sexy, intriguing and controversial. [Full review in Spanish]

Teen sex work is just one plotline in seamy Italian soap.

It's a mixed bag that only succeeds in confirming that it's not just an American trend, but that everywhere the kids are not alright.

Well-acted and well-written, Baby should be an entertaining drama if you're OK with how racy the subject matter.

Audience Reviews for Baby: Season 1

Overall, I ended up enjoying the show but there's nothing really to rave about. I watch a lot of shows with subtitles on, so it wasn't a problem for me to read keep up with what was happening at the same time. It's got a decent storyline, decent acting, and decent characters, besides Chiara's friends. I felt that Fabio and Camilla were pretty bland as characters and their "storyline" felt pushed onto the audience. Although the prostitution seems to be the big storyline, I will say it feels like a subplot in fact, all the plots feel like a subplot. I couldn't really tell what main point of the show was. Maybe just edgy teen rebellion? I saw at the end how they were trying to connect Damiano's storyline with Chiara and Ludo and maybe if it was more than six episodes they'd add the other characters in the mix or give them more to do, but I do like the six episode format since it doesn't drag on the show. However, it does make it harder to smoothly make a show without it being seemed rush or that it was missing things so I'm hoping the show will be able to distinct main plots from sub-plots. That being said, I love angsty teen shows so I love the exaggerated lifestyle the characters have. I also ended up liking Damiano a lot more than I thought I would, I figured he'd be the typical bad boy who didn't show emotion and Chiara being the "good girl" character she was first portrayed as, and would step in and would soften his character; which was DEFINITELY not the case. If you don't analyze the show and just accept the stupid and shock value decisions the characters make, you'd enjoy the show a lot more. I like to see the show as a passable trashy but good show.

Enjoyably angsty and atmospheric but pretty flawed and full of moral grey areas, Hard to know what to say about this. Basically feels like netflix told Italy to produce another version of Elite and Italy was like, ''cool but we are upping the angst'. The moody aesthetic for the show worked pretty well but I would argue that the angst is pretty surface level. The characters go around doing shocking things but half the time their actions seem strangle disconnected from their characters. A lot of very poor decisions are made by the the main characters for seemingly no reason, I just had to suspend my disbelief and accept that that was a main principle of the show. It is also frustrating that all of the characters have to be miserable ALL of the time. If anything positive happens to a character is seems like the writers immediately sabotage is for not good reason. I liked the 6 episode format it felt concise and didn't drag.

Absolutly boring. The topic of prostitiusion was just a side plot. Half of the actors don't know how to act.

I really enjoy this show. At first, I was bothered by the voices not matches the mouthing but got used to it. I'm disappointed that there are only 6 episodes per season. I do not analyze this show or think about whether the storyline is flawed. I watch this for the drama and little love stories - I really like Chiara and Domiano together and like that Domiano is not the typical asshole but really appears to be a good guy who genuinely cares for Chiara. I hope this continues but now we must wait and wait for another season. I sure hope

Nothing new here. This show is full of canned dialogue and exhausted plot lines. Rich prep school students behaving badly. But in Rome, complete with screenshot overlays of there social media interactions.
