The plot is sufficiently good to bring me back... but dramas can feel like a bit of a slog when the central character is unlikeable and potentially everyone is lying. Go to Full Review

Season 2 of Bloodlands layers even more intrigue onto what’s generally a straightforward, unfussy detective drama, with James Nesbitt’s raw anger leading the way. Go to Full Review
Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) 09/30/2022
Nesbitt looks like he’s having fun, and when you add the great Lorcan Cranitch (Cracker), the Brando of shouty police chiefs, into the mix, Bloodlands starts to look like a decent prospect for Sunday nights. Go to Full Review

There really aren’t sufficient words in the dictionary to capture this show’s sheer awfulness. Go to Full Review

Joan N @RT75125775 Jul 7 After watching the two seasons of this show, I feel like I Wasted hours on a show that got me hooked & let me down big time. Very few good people to admire in this show. I Like to have a a good person be the good guy/gal but this was had to find in this show. Best , honest hero on the show gets killed. It was downhill for me after that. I honestly cannot recommend this show to anyone. I was a big fan of James Nesbit & am disappointed in this series. Wasted a lot of hours hoping for something to redeem it. No such luck. See more Francis R @RT26137155 12/31/2024 Bad acting, unbelievable plot lines and the dumbest police force on the planet, a frustratingly bad watch. See more Tanya @RT31727819 08/15/2023 Can't outshine season one but decent amount of intrigue & (won't spoil it for you but this series should have scored higher b/c it turns the usual lead investigator detecting a mole routine on its head. See more Steven S @Docs500 03/15/2023 Skip this unless you want to see a show in which the protagonist from the first season (Brannick) played by the same actor as in the first season (James Nesbitt) becomes an entirely different person, and in which the ongoing story element from the first season gets dropped completely with no explanation. A tough cop who does it his way who is also grieving the mysterious disappearance of his wife becomes a cold-blooded psychopath who executes two people in the bogs for some bars of gold. (This in a flashback in the first minutes of the series, to I believe 1989--and I'm not watching it again ever to check.) Later in the series, the concerned and loving father who cares deeply for his slightly wayward junior colleague, Birdy and his hardworking assistant, Niamh (but won't show it) also executes somebody who has become troublesome. This is a farrago of hopeless bullshit. James Nesbit must be an excellent actor, because he never laughs at the ridiculous and stupid things the script forces him to do. The cinematographers turn in some good work and the directing is at least passable. The rest of the regulars from season 1 are also fine actors and totally wasted in this giant airborne turd. At least at the end (spoiler alert), Brannick is shot in the leg and about to be found out, and so go to prison forever--so there likely won't be a third season. That much is a small blessing. There is an ancient quote by Oliver Goldsmith that sums this up. "The company of fools may first make us smile but in the end we always feel melancholy." This one was extremely sad. See more Nicholas F @RT07333438 09/28/2022 Wooden; poor. The first season was ropey; this is just so much worse. See more Read all reviews
