Working with rich material, this substantial UK cast indicates the depth of talent available in the UK. And many of them are admirably vanity-free, happy to let their faces look lined and lived-in when the role calls for it. Go to Full Review

Don S 12/10/2023 A really solid murder mystery based upon multiple Charles Dickens works. This is a fairly complex work that was a difficult undertaking. Anyone that enjoys Dickens will like this production. See more Rudy A 07/31/2021 It's hard to understand why the BBC's audience never materialized for this delightful series that was cancelled after only one season. Writer Tony Jordan weaves together a credible "prequel" to Great Expectations, Bleak House, Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol. While some critics frowned on lifting Dickens's already full and delightful characters to serve in Jordan's narrative, I found the flawlessly acted and directed result as delightful as any series based on the master's actual work. As to there being only one season, have no fear. Unlike other series, this show perfectly wraps up all its plot lines in the final episodes – just as in the real thing. See more Read all reviews
