The first episode of Had I Not Seen The Sun sets up an interesting dual story about a serial killer’s high school years and how a filmmaker connects with one of his victims years later. Go to Full Review

At its core, this is exactly the kind of plot I’d go for. However, then you add the element of romance, and I’m not too sure anymore. Also, there are MANY flashbacks that are there for a reason, but this character-driven series is just VERY slow. Go to Full Review

TheSaturday5 T @Shay734 Dec 6 First, I think calling the ML a serial killer isn’t accurate—though he is on death row. I also think a warning would have been helpful for those who could be triggered by graphic sexual violence. If you’re looking for a drama that forces you to watch an incredible amount of corruption and trauma unpacked on kids to see how much they’ll regurgitate it all over someone else, this is the one for you. It helps to know this isn’t a drama to binge through… Those criticisms aside, the cinematography is gorgeous. There is a certain poetic beauty about the ballet dancing as well as the moth and butterfly. I’ve fought my way through the ten episodes of season one, and will fight my way through season 2, as well. Acting and actors are incredible, I felt every single emotion. Loved the storyline, the music 🔥. See more Andrew S @RT18421042 Nov 15 Absolutely amazing. Binged ten episodes in 2 days as it was literally impossible to stop watching. Incredible acting, storyline and cinematography make this one of the best shows I’ve watched in a very long time. Can’t wait for Part 2! See more Kiki M @RT33058454 Nov 14 This was a very intricate and complex story, but it was also very well narrated. It seems to tackle, at its core, the effects and aftermath of a really traumatic event and how it can affect everyone involved, directly and indirectly. I would have thought that Li Jen Yao's reaction (un-aliving everyone involved) is a tad unrealistic, but the film does a good job of providing background information to justify it, especially regarding Li Jen Yao's childhood, leading one to assume that the traumatic event had triggered some sort of sociopathic tendencies. The acting, especially by young Hsiao Tung, was phenomenal. The range of emotion was amazing. A critic here had commented that they felt the element of romance wasn't needed in the plot. However, anyone who watched the film can obviously tell that the romance between young Hsiao Tung and Li Jen Yao is extremely pivotal to this story, as it is a significant catalyst for everything that happens, leading up to the traumatic event and after. The same critic also said she found it slow; however, I dare say I'd be terribly disappointed if they had rushed the story, especially given such a heavy and relevant topic. The pace of the plot perfectly mirrors how life goes for the victims of the crime (s) in this film, especially regarding how long it takes them to get over such a traumatic event —and whether they ever do. Many carry the scars for the rest of their lives. Therefore, it was very insensitive and quite uneducated of said critic to make such a comment. It honestly seemed like she was expecting something light-hearted and fast-paced, but, clearly, from the synopsis, it wasn't ever going to be that kind of film. Said critic should absolutely stick to action films next time, and maybe they'll get the adrenaline rush they are seeking. After watching the entire film, to rate it a 2/5, signposts that they hadn't taken the film seriously, or taken the time to understand and educate themselves on the severity of the topic(s) discussed in the drama. It is an absolute must-watch, and I can't wait for another season. See more Read all reviews
