It's unwatchably badly written.

The pilot episode was pretty good, and without giving too much away, we get a real feel for the relationship of this family and their surrounding peers.

The urge to click to something more pleasant -- Saw IV maybe -- is nigh unto overpowering throughout Thursday's premiere of NBC's new Kath & Kim. I'm trying to be charitable.

[A] few scattered kinda funny parts don't make up for the obnoxiously unfunny whole.

[A] mother/daughter Odd Couple that is drained almost immediately of any comic value.

If there was ever an argument against all the remake foolishness going on in television, "Kath & Kim" is it.

Sometimes what's missing is a sense that the characters' little victories matter beyond the writers' love of pointing and laughing... and sometimes it's just the laughs themselves that aren't there.

The show has been painlessly Americanized and might as well be an indigenous creation, armed as it is with wicked, wacky comment on the mores and morals of the mall culture.

This disheartening American remake follows the basic recipe, but it's just one more cake left out in the rain.

"Kath & Kim" is among the most unpleasant viewing experiences of my lifetime.

New entry "Kath & Kim" offers a few laughs but it's mostly a dumb dud.

[B]ased on this pilot, we can't recommend this show at all, unless you're a big fan of unfunny and annoying characters.

[W]e're watching a couple of loud nitwits in the vain hope they will say or do something clever or funny.

It lacks the charm of the original. Worse, the characters in the NBC show are so exaggerated that the whole thing feels like a skit. A long, long skit.

"Kath & Kim" is proof - yet again, my friends - that creating a successful sitcom is a stubbornly mysterious process, that even a collection of the very best ingredients can make for a tasteless stew.

Witlessly Americanized by Michelle Nader (King of Queens), Kath manages to waste the talents of Molly Shannon while exposing the limits of Selma Blair's comedy range.

As The Office demonstrates, it's possible to make a smart comedy about dumb people. Kath and Kim, however, is not smart or very comedic.

The core problem with K&K is that there's no character to root for.

["Kath & Kim"] is populated by characters who are the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.

[M]ostly the show irritates more than it amuses.
