SYNOPSIS: 'Along with family and friends, former professional bodybuilder Sally McNeil charts her rocky marriage and its end in a Valentine's Day murder.' This documentary swings from one emotion to another and leaves so my questions unanswered. From episode to episode the finger of blame points at numerous parties and there's no clear cut answer to how, or why, this crime ever took place. Sally killing her husband is without doubt, and she doesn't deny that. But the story of their relationship takes us down some very dark paths. Paths to which, in the end, create a perfect storm, a perfect storm of murder. As this story delves into how the public perception of domestic abuse changed during the 90s, it's also clear that the systems which should've been there to protect Sally just didn't function in society at the time. Post murder, there are also many failings by the police and the legal system. It's clear now that had the correct procedures been followed by the police, and her legal team been even half competent that Sally may well have escaped with a charge of manslaughter due to her acting in self defence. This is a dark exploration into domestic abuse, murder and how the cycle of violence and abuse can seep into families and cross generation. Disturbing. 7/10 See more Read all reviews
