Josh B @RT88251751 2d Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 takes its predecessor's flaws and amplifies them into absurdity. The fate of global defense rests in the hands of glorified teenagers - characters depicted with the emotional maturity of high schoolers who nevertheless wield absolute narrative authority. Experienced scientists and military veterans are routinely written as clueless accessories, existing only to defer to adolescent impulse. The script mistakes arrogance for brilliance. This visual unrealism is mirrored in the show's heavy-handed identity politics. Genius and moral infallibility are strictly partitioned along demographical lines, rendering characters like May instantly heroic, while white male leads are reduced to reactionary plot devices who exist to be corrected. The writers' room prioritized ideological posturing over human complexity. By stripping characters of genuine multidimensionality, Season 2 replaces storytelling with caricature. But kinda funny. As in so bad it’s funny. Most of the show my husband and I kept rolling our eyes. The writing was too forced, trying to make characters like Cate & May way more interesting than they actually were. We ended up fast forwarding most of the dialogue scenes just to get to the very sparse and rare monster scenes, which really are the only saving grace of this unwatchable show. Kurt & Wyatt Russell are fantastic, but not enough to save us from the terrible writing and poor acting of pretty much the entire cast. See more Brian L @Snowman1313 Aug 4 Season 1 was so good. In Season 2 it devolves into the typical modern day liberal trope fest. All women kick as, even the bad ones. Which on its own is OK. Unfortunately they pair it as they always do, with all men are stupid, impulsive and move forward with no real thought. They ruined Star Wars with it They ruined Monarch with it. If you want to Guage the fluffiness vs the seriousness of season 2. Here's the line from one of our lady heroes that says it all. "Her love as a mother is more powerful than any computer program I could ever write". TV off.
