Monster: The Ed Gein Story is exploitative, trashy, and entirely your fault. Certainly, it’s among the more unusual television theses presented this year, and sort of fascinating in its own wrong-headed way. Go to Full Review

It may seem as if the point is to turn the mirror on society’s endless appetite for monstrosity. But, as usual, the makers of “Monster” want to have it all ways. Go to Full Review

For all its craft and conviction, this series doesn’t illuminate our fascination with evil so much as indulge it, and that’s the real horror. Go to Full Review

The show is both critique and confession, art and indictment. It’s a true-crime thriller that eats its own genre alive. Go to Full Review

Season 3 is visceral, uncomfortable, and tells this true story of Ed Gein in a slightly fictionalized way, not straying away from his atrocities. Hunnam makes some interesting decisions that are memorable, regardless of how divisive they will be. Go to Full Review

Cassandra G. @Th3B0sh Mar 2 The final 3 episodes made this feel like a disturbing idolization and conspiracy theory. Unnecessary tie ins were made when a focus on Gein’s upbringing would have given more substance to the show to comment on the human psyche. The idolization that is implied adds a disturbing layer of fiction that simplifies the human condition and credits Gein with much more than films that drew inspiration from his crimes. This season ended as a fetishization of the grotesque rather than a look into Gein’s life and motives. See more Maurizio B @Maurizio62 Feb 20 A totally unexpected gem on Netflix. Phenomenal performance by the main actor. He brings us into Ed Gein's dark world as if he was really him. The flat tone of the voice also is a key disruptive element. The director takes out from the viewer the most hidden fears, in that respect almost recalling Stephen King's power or (the Award Winner) The Silence of the Lambs. If not movies from Mario Bava, the Italian B-Movie director acclaimed by Quentin Tarantino. Remarkable effort also in creating the atmospheres of those years. Disgusting, repulsive, pulp, out of mind, to the extent you become addicted to it just in a few frames, always looking for next social convention to be knocked down. Either you like it or you hate it. Still a must see TV series, on my (not that much) humble opinion. See more Steven F. @SteveGotScored Feb 19 Honestly I loved this season and it explores Ed Geins life very accurately! See more Ian H @Howellsey Feb 9 Well! That was a tough watch. Bitty, gruesome, trashy, exploitative, watchable. Not sure what it was trying for other than viewers! See more Chris F @ChrisF7 Feb 2 Leave it to Hollywood to glorify a murderer. See more Ozz F @OzzFreak Jan 23 Acting was great. But the story was really bad to much fantasy. See more Read all reviews
