If it weren’t for Allam’s handsome performance in Murder in Provence, I might have nodded off at times. Don’t get me wrong, it was gorgeous to watch, all those lovely French cameos a spa bath for screen-weary eyes, but, blimey, at times it was slow. Go to Full Review

One useful guide as to whether any given contemporary British television drama is worth watching is to see if Roger Allam is in it. If the show is mediocre he will make it more palatable. Go to Full Review

The show poses as an old-fashioned detective series, but is really a shamelessly sybaritic wallow in the glorious scenery, architecture and luminous blue skies of the Midi... However, it grows on you. Go to Full Review

Roger did not disappoint as Antoine Verlaque, investigating judge in Aix-en-Provence. Go to Full Review

J B @RT96749541 Nov 13 This show is so fantastic it makes you long for the next season. It's not trying to be clever, but it is. And hold the presses because the talented people who wrote this script actually gave thought to this thing called Character Development - woah! It makes a big difference. Roger Allam IS the show with his performance, and his co-star Nancy Carroll is FANTASTIC. And then there is the setting Provence, which almost outshines them both because it's bloody Provence of course it does! It's a simple yet effective formula - talented actors, an unbeatable setting (if you can't go to Provence you at least want to watch it on TV), a script with imagination AND a tight murder/crime plot that a talented team of humans have actually given thought to. Well done! Bring on season 2. See more GIM B @RT32902280 Jun 3 I love this show, very entertaining. I hope there will be more series soon. See more Mike P @RT22808992 12/14/2024 First class - British drama at its best. Should be more of it. See more Rhonda G @RT83183539 08/14/2024 I turned it off 30 minutes into the first episode when they insulted Americans. “I think I’ll be sick”. Exactly what I was thinking. Why am I watching such stupid lines?! The world knows the UK is frozen over with zero emotion. Can’t imagine why you are threatened by the US loving custom? Glad the show died! See more Cidem Z @RT46690053 04/21/2024 The scenery, the foot, the chemistry between Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll lovely; between Patricia Hodge and everyone, great fun! Lots more please! See more Jill L @RT04909703 02/03/2024 Enjoyed Roger Allam in Endeavor. Because of that and his laudable stage career, I decided to watch this show. Made it through episode 1. I won't watch any more. He's pretty good, but the dialogue is pretty bad. Uneven production values. Some of the outdoor scenes appear to be against a backdrop. Something's off about the extras/people in the background too - maybe there just aren't enough of them. His "girlfriend" (seems more permanent than the term indicates) is a forensic psychologist (?) but demonstrates none of her knowledge. It is weird that no one speaks French or has a French accent, just throws in a word of French or speaks a name with a French accent every once in a while. The plot is often advanced by having a character give a long history/explanation of what has happened rather than action. Sadly, Murder in Provence is not worth watching. See more Read all reviews
