The cult classic TV show is back! Comic Jonah Ray plays the role of Jonah Heston, a hapless human who is forced by evil scientists to endure a vault of cheesy movies. Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day) is the daughter of the original mad scientist, Dr. Clayton Forrester, and Patton Oswalt plays the son of Clayton's former henchman. In hopes of holding onto his sanity, Jonah watches the films with his hilarious robot companions. Together, the "B" movie audience members crack snarky jokes as the action plays out on screen.

What's most important here: Does it feel like Mystery Science Theater 3000? It does, in ways that reflect both the Joel and Mike eras of the show. Go to Full Review

The new MST3K's most subversive qualities come out when it's not only demanding viewers' undivided attention but encouraging them to zoom in and even appreciate a trashy film's mistakes. Go to Full Review

Technically, you could still watch this new season in a random order (as long as you began with the first episode and ended with the season finale), but the increase in serialization actually works nicely to tie the season together. Go to Full Review

The hot-and-cold riffing at least reaches lukewarm most of the time, and the episodes get better as the season progresses. Go to Full Review

S Y. @schizmaster Dec 17 Took a little bit to get into, but still fun to watch! The biggest unanswered question I have is: as a adult who now understands the references does that knowledge make it more or less funny? See more Jad H 01/11/2025 This is not funny. Great premise, terrible execution. The riffs don’t hit and the characters are stale joke bots for terrible jokes. If they had some chemistry it would be better. But no. I understand that this is a reboot (I haven’t seen the original one) but I assure you most of the positive reviews for this is just nostalgia, please dont waste your watching this show. honestly just watching the movies by themselves would be funnier. All in all, I could think of ways to make this better- it could really benefit with better characterization for the robots and the dude so they could riff off each other and have interesting interactions. Also if they could stick with a bit and make it so some characters in the movies have jokes that fit the personality they spin onto them: like for example if they kept the mac in Mac n me being an evil alien and ran with it, actually contorting the movies premise to a funnier one, I could actually really dig that. - my second idea is that if they talked more like people with each other: what I mean by this is if they went on tangents and interacted with each other quips it would be funnier and show characterization. Like if the bird dude started talking about how weird a scene was and the human dude responding to that and they start having a conversation about the movie just to be cut off by something happening in the movie would be cool. The “riffs” feel way too scripted and it just doesn’t feel natural. TLDR - lots of wasted potential, so awkward, and your “hosts” feel as stale and lacking a personality as much as a robot would. See more 04/14/2021 Was really surprised at how little I liked this. Tried, twice, to watch all the episodes and some were so bad I fell asleep the first time. That's one big problem. It just isn't funny. The writing isn't as crisp as before with the jokes sounding like random one liners - perfect for the environment, they sounded like riffs the respective character would come up with. Here they were trying too hard to be funny and it came across as dull. Yelling too often took the place of dialogue; which really isn't needed. One doesn't need a lot of backstory or explanation as to what is happening as we already freaking know. The basic outline of the story that is. Does kinda stink that the bots and Mike got their happy ending as buddies and then there they are with a new host without much explanation. The robot voices didn't sound in character - and no, that's not a 'I prefer the old cast' thing. I do, but the voices just didn't have personality. The bots didn't have any chemistry with Jonah at all and he was not a good character. Didn't have any good guy amiability and was rather dull. No chemistry with the new Mads either; he was easily (behind the writing) the second biggest failure of the show. It just wasn't funny. See more spencer p @s_plewe 06/11/2020 While it can't compare to the original seasons with the wonderfully dry Joel Hodgsen as host, at least the crux of the series - the movies themselves - are once again a hilariously riffed ride. See more 05/25/2020 How is this rated#3 on "The 154 Best Netflix Series and Shows to Watch Right Now". I tried watching 5 mins of it and its horrible. See more 04/09/2020 I was terrified the reboot would be awful. This is one you'd better do right, or not at all, it was too special to too many people. I gave new host Jonah the shifty eye at first, and though Joel is irreplaceable, after a few minutes and a couple solid jokes realized all is well. ly t See more Read all reviews
