Season 1
Napoleon Dynamite

Critics Consensus

Unfunny and hackneyed, Napoleon Dynamite doesn't understand what made the movie popular in the first place.

If you were reduced to hysterical laughter by the concept of herbal breast-enlargement cream in the film, you will likely be so again by the superpower-conveying acne medicine in the TV show.

This cartoon is largely not funny because it is implausible.

Of course Napoleon Dynamite the animated TV series will be as good as Napoleon Dynamite the un-animated movie.

Fox's animated version of the cartoonish movie Napoleon Dynamite is amusing enough to merit the continuation.

The entire series is an overblown caricature of what made the original film enjoyable.

The story certainly does little to impress.

Everything feels like a put-on; nothing seems plausible.

Dynamite is a dud.

Napoleon Dynamite isn't great, but it made me smile a number of times, chuckle a couple of times, and laugh out loud at least once.

That Napoleon Dynamite is not as terrible as I might have expected doesn't actually make it good, or funny.

I have no problems with it! I was very entertained.

This is seriously the funniest show my wife and I have seen, in a very long time. She rarely laughs out loud at anything on TV, but literally every single episode of this show had us laughing so hard, we had to pause it at least once. *Napoleon Dynamite* only lasted six episodes, but it was killed off well before its time.

I'm not sure what to say except that it's not consistently funny. I like it, and I think one of the reasons is that it feels almost exactly like the movie except it's animated. All the voice actors coming back was great! I'm shocked I liked this because I don't really love the movie.

A TV show made from a movie that had no need to be a TV show made from a movie.

it wasnt a bad show and i rather enjoyed it

Likable characters, interesting plots and smart jokes make Napoleon Dynamite a movie worth adapting into a cartoon.
  • Nov 29, 2014
Rather than using the poor animation to serve as a joke, it focuses on unfunny/implausible situations. While there are a few worth while moments, they are so rare it's not worth watching. Just watch the first few seasons of the Simpsons and you will get what this show seemed to aim for.

Boy, you think getting the same actors and everything would have made this solid gold, instead it's solid crap
  • Jan 30, 2014
Was alright, not as funny as the movie. Show got cancelled pretty quickly
  • Dec 05, 2013
I loved the original film, but this could have been better if both the stories were more plausible and realistic (which none of them are), if the jokes were more mature, and the nonessential characters were more believable.
