"NY Med" is a follow-up to previous hospital-centric documentary series "Hopkins" and "Boston Med." The show spotlights compassionate surgeons who change people's lives with their medical brilliance -- and luck. Alongside cutting-edge medicine, the hospital staff interacts with strong-willed patients and one another, developing complicated relationships with people they see more than their own families. The show features Dr. Mehmet Oz, who uses his surgical skill to fix hearts and save lives.

It's not as if the direction or production values are so great that they make me forget that the difference between reality and scripted TV is largely in the eye of the beholder. It's that it's hard not to be moved by the subject matter. Go to Full Review

A+
NY Med is unscripted storytelling at its best, but it certainly helps to have the right components for this kind of story, notably the nurses and doctors (and not just that wizard Oz, either) and a stream of humanity at its most vulnerable. Go to Full Review

NY Med confirms two notions: your fear of hospitals is well founded. And the people in them do their best to get you through it. Go to Full Review

While NY Med is only sporadically gripping, it's interesting enough to make me set my DVR. Ironically, what ABC considers their biggest selling point in the show may in fact be the weakest. Go to Full Review

The series offers a voyeuristic but humanizing look into the day-to-day lives of medical professionals as they do their jobs helping the injured and sick from all walks of life that come to them for help. Go to Full Review
