While living in the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico, poor Teresa Mendoza falls in love with a member of a successful drug cartel, hoping the love will help her rise above the hopelessness she feels in her life. When it doesn't happen, she is forced to flee the country after her boyfriend is murdered. She seeks refuge in America, where she teams up with an unlikely person from her past to take down the leader of the drug ring that is after her. Teresa ends up starting her own drug empire, becoming one of the world's wealthiest women in the process. With her success, she discovers that money doesn't fix all of her problems, and she can only depend on herself if she wants to stay one step ahead of others and stay alive.

The themes of survival and vengeance dominate, but Braga's character makes it interesting. Go to Full Review

The influence of new showrunner Natalie Chaidez (a veteran of In Plain Sight and 12 Monkeys) can be seen in the more agile pacing steering its first two episodes. Go to Full Review

Film G @RT34095011 09/24/2024 Great.....BUT - wth is up with all the damn CAMERA SHAKE! It's like someone just learned how to do camera shakes in After Effects and NOTHING more. There are even scenes where it's a "still moment" a moment of conveying something sad, on land, and the camera shake is like as if you are in a deep sea fishing boat in the middle of a monsoon! I'm just halfway on S2 but I'm seriously nauseous from the EXCESSIVE camera shake. I know it's done purposely synthetically and whoever is editing this needs a slap on the back of the head cause they are tanking this great series. I watch it on a projector, no less, so IMAGINE that a second. It feels like my entire room is rocking around! And it's not just a scene here and there, it's abused at this point. Not sure why they are relying so much on that stupid effect instead of just TELLING THE STORY! Some plot are broken, and there are a few moments where they just "resolve" a plot hole with a cheesy deus ex machina, but I will say there is more GOOD than BAD in all of this, and it's actually a decent show. If you come from watching Narcos, Narcos Mexico, and Breaking Bad, and some Escobar stuff and ran out of cool stuff to watch, and are Jonesing for that kind of stuff, this show will definitely give you your fix! Like I said it's good but I seriously cannot stand the EXCESSIVE camera shake effect. Like WHO is responsible for THAT MUCH? They need to be medically checked for real. See more Slick R @SlickReviewer 06/23/2024 Good show but it should have been called Queen Captain Save a Ho because that's literally what she does See more 04/14/2021 I had high hopes for this show but soon was really let down. A good idea badly executed. It's filled with bad directing and amateurish acting. The actress Veronica Falcón, playing one of the major roles—hence, unfortunately, taking up a lot of screen time—is one actress I find most annoying with her telegraphed, bad acting. It would have been better with someone else. A lot of the show is slow-moving, one-note, predictable and filled with cliches we've seen a million times. Really, it's just a very substandard fare. There are plenty of other really engaging, good shows out there. Give this one a miss. See more 07/15/2019 A bit soapy and sometimes suffers from the old lazy writers' trick of completely changing character personalities and/or wiping character memories between episodes in order to make plots work, but overall this is a great show. It's heaps of fun. It has an entertaining story and mostly interesting and likeable characters. Alice Braga is fantastic as Teresa, and her story is done very well. She really has to *fight* for everything, and never gets anything easy. I definitely recommend a watch. See more 11/08/2018 Season two is just as interesting as season one. The character development is deep and very relatable. The twists are never ending keeping you hooked all the way. See more 11/04/2018 Felizmente, a série conseguiu elevar a fasquia e trouxe-nos mais casos que nos deixaram com o coração nas mãos, na boca... em todo o lado possível. See more Read all reviews
