What to Know

Critics Consensus

Resident Alien takes a minute to settle into its skin, but once it does it finds fresh humor in a familiar framework and proves a perfect showcase for Alan Tudyk's singular comedic skills.

The show needs to give us less of that and instead mine the comic potential, because the set-up here is appealing. Go to Full Review

It's a nice send-up of various genres, based on the Dark Horse comic books. However, it feels too slight to warrant hour-long episodes and would perhaps be snappier in half-hour bites. Go to Full Review

Resident Alien knows what it is doing and does it with admirable sincerity. It deploys well-worn tropes without cynicism and plays with others without winking exhaustingly at its audience. Go to Full Review

"Resident Alien" is laugh-out-loud funny, full of heart-felt moments and, much like Harry himself, surprisingly sincere. It's the first must-watch show of 2021. Go to Full Review

What's better than Alan Tudyk? Why, Alan Tudyk masquerading as an alien, of course! Go to Full Review

Absolutely worth watching, if for no other reason for Alan Tudyk showing off his absurd acting abilities. Go to Full Review

Samer M @RT32735992 3h Honestly, I've never reviewed anything on here, nor have I felt the need to make an account until now. This show is so agonizingly unextraordinary and fails on soooo many fronts. The story is okay, but the main characters are incredibly forgettable, unfunny caricatures. Here's a few of the cringiest things: the black sheriff running around asking people to call him "big black," written by white writers who have never met a single black man, the native woman, who can't act, that they put into the role of "relatable outcast" and the horny bartender who chases after everything with a pulse. 90% of the bits are unfunny, and the only saving grace is the alien played by a guy who convincingly portrays autistic traits, which is probably why he succeeds in blending in despite everything. I was surprised they put a young hijabi girl in the show but they did justice in their portrayal of her as well by not leaning into criticizing the religion, disrespecting it or making it all she is. See more sunny D @UsernameN. Mar 6 I must say I had my doubts at first for sure. I passed over it many times, and finally decided to watch it. I do enjoy it, I would say it's a light-ish comedy, a little mainstream but engaging - Alan Tudyk is a solid comedy actor, he brings it, well done See more Paula A @Picky2026 Mar 4 Gosh. Amazed at the high reviews. Seems to have been written by a team of grade fivers. Each episode written after the other had aired. The continuity is abismal - conflicting actions/words by the 'Alien' in almost every episode. They don't line up with those in previous episoldes. Many actors are outstanding, but the screenplay is extremely poor and some of the comedic scenes are downright embarrassing. Tried to persist, but it's just too simplistic and badly written.
