Yet another topnotch adaptation of an Ann Cleeves mystery novel. Go to Full Review

First Mark Bonnar as Perez's odd couple housemate, now McCole: it's a measure of the drama's quality that it can attract such first rate actors to secondary roles. Go to Full Review

The combination of Henshall and the Shetland landscapes ensures that the show is always watchable, though you can't help noticing that the machinery of the plot seems to be clattering ever more loudly in the background. Go to Full Review

Anita F 08/28/2023 I love this show. It is consistently good season after season. The main characters have so much depth. See more Jim O 09/25/2022 The plot has begun to rot. The only grace left is the scenery. All the dank and dour has been transferred to the characters. In desperation to trap viewers into watching season 7, the writer(s) have left me ruing ever starting season 6. It's as if D-Day were rewritten, for the sake of viewer interest, with all the allies maimed or killed and Eisenhower and Montgomery caught in flagrante delicto. See more 07/04/2022 While Season 6 was a little darker than usual, the outstanding work by the lead actors still make this a much watch series. The stunning, if bleak, backdrop provided by Shetland nicely sets the tone for the stories which are in themselves quite dark and bleak. The first 5 seasons were outstanding and this 6th only just a little less so. See more Stephen G 04/01/2022 Really mixed emotions about Season 6. On the plus side, the excellent acting and multi-faceted characters remained engaging. Certain characters didn't always make the smartest decisions, but those poor decisions were understandable. The multiple plots certainly held my wife's and my interest. For a time, I thought Season 6 was the best one. And as always, the scenery was stunning. On the other hand, there was perhaps a plot line or two too many. And the central plot didn't hold up all that well when it was all resolved. But the worst aspect of the season was how it ended. I won't give it away, except to say that an important aspect, which didn't pertain to the main mystery/central plot line, ended on a very unsatisfactory note not in keeping with the series. That aspect only may have worked, just barely, as a set-up to a potential Season 7. If it marked the end of the series, though, it's a real shame that the writers and producers sought to bring it all to a close that way. See more 12/07/2021 Season 6 was a bomb. What were the scriptwriters smoking? Too many plot elements are at play and are disconnected and bordering on absurd. If this trend is carried over to Season 7 (if there is one), it might go something like this: Trish's baby is fathered by aliens. Jimmy has a sex change operation. The sergeant turns out to be a child molester. The Loch Ness monster comes ashore on Shetland. See more 11/24/2021 As always, this show has you guessing and has you had the edge of your seat.
