It is as a history lesson that “Sitting Bull” is valuable, putting documentary flesh on a mythic figure and detailing the political realities that led the U.S. to follow the policies it did. Go to Full Review

billy S @billy005 May 12 The film shows Lakota history from a somewhat sympathetic white perspective but not sympathetic enough of the historical facts, and without cultural context. They leave out the cowardliness and greediness of the US government and army. They breeze over and/or don't mention the sad and dishonorable lying of the US government that drove the Lakota to desperation. They mention "manifest destiny" and try to tell a story about how this happened, but end up reinforcing the story of "manifest destiny". There are some important points but if someone is interested in true history, this historic dramatization falls far short in communicating any objective perspective...it does give a white perspective of the the history, but doesn't honor the real history. There are plain historical errrors, and when will they find actors who at least look something close to the original? The actor performing as Custer is a ridiculous parody. See more Magnus A @RT19500319 06/08/2025 I liked Sitting Bull. This is history told from the perspective of the Lakota but without sugar coating the Lakota or demonizing the Settlers and United States too much - there are a few accusations or duplicity and War Crimes. Far better than Kevin Costner's The West - better made and no clunky narration. See more Read all reviews
