Critics Consensus

Still a bright beacon in the Star Trek universe, Strange New Worlds' third season makes up for its lack of narrative ambition with gleaming execution.

It has everything the discerning Trekkie could want. Epic interstellar battles, dodgy yellow knitwear and alien races with pointy plastic ears that look like they might go warp factor nine near an open flame. Go to Full Review

A show that continues to uphold the ideals of its franchise’s point of origin, even as its swings boldly go nowhere all that deep. Go to Full Review

All that’s left is the fun. Hey, who are we to complain when it’s a show this fun? But “Star Trek” always has had the capacity to be more, and so has this show. Go to Full Review

10 episodes for a couple of "decent" episodes and one "good" episode... this season hurt. Go to Full Review

How does one pass judgment on effective fan service, when the fan is me, and I feel served...yet I can't help feeling it's at the expense of what the TV show at hand ought to be doing? Go to Full Review

It’s got the balance of episodic storytelling and a continuing narrative. But the gimmicky episodes aren’t the only highlights. They’ve given us such lovely characters, played by these compelling actors who just capture the screen. Go to Full Review

Mike P. @MikeisaPATRIOT Mar 6 I paid for this piece of garbage. So angry. I couldn’t get through it. Season 1 was barely ok. Season 2 was bad. Season 3? Come on Paramount! Make some decent Star Trek! I can’t believe I pay for Paramount’s streaming service. I am thinking HBO would give me more entertainment for my money. Of course almost anything would be more entertaining than season 3 of this. See more Carlos M @CaduMartins Mar 2 The third season marks a noticeable decline in quality compared to the first two. The narrative focus has shifted heavily toward romantic affairs and fantasy elements, leaving very little room for the grounded science fiction that traditionally defines the series. With only ten episodes per season, the show needs to stop wasting its limited runtime on experimental fillers and utilize writers who have a firmer grasp on what the series is about. See more Paul P. @CaptainPJ Feb 28 Interesting that Season 3 isn't getting a better review? After I belive the new owners took over just before Season 3 was released. Not sure how accurate that re-shoots where done and maybe this is why this Season 3 didn't land as well as the 1st. Two seasons? But overall being Star Trek, I still did enjoy watching it. Live long and prosper 🖖 See more R T @JohnOlt Feb 4 Season 3 maintains the high standard. The meta-satire episode brilliantly deconstructs Trek misconceptions while defending its progressive legacy. Episode 5 delivers edge-of-your-seat tension and strong character work. Mostly intelligent storytelling that respects both the franchise and its audience. 🖖 See more Bernd L @Monguntiacum Feb 2 Still the best Trek since many many years. I love it. Amazing season of an amazing Show. Great cast! Thank you for so much joy! Welcome home beloved Star Trek, i hope you stay a while with us! See more Sarah T @SarahTol Feb 1 Oh my...
