Almost unbearable. Pretentious trash. The zoom in zoom out camera crap is cringeworthy and embarrassing. I didn't even know that was still being done anymore. This show lost me in the first two minutes when the son calls his father, and the writers didn't trust that we knew it was the father, so they have the son say "dad" a million times on the phone. The writers do not trust the intelligence of the audience. That's when I knew what kind of incompetence I was probably in for. I watched the first episode and couldn't stand it any longer. Boring and unrealistic. Total fake crap. Kieren Culken is just awful to watch, mainly because of the particularly vile character he plays. But they make him look so ugly and annoying. He is probably miscast. How do this show win any awards?
Not sure what the buzz is all about with this show. Almost every character is a miserable selfish sadist and money grabber. And, I care about none of them. Why would I want to spend my valuable time with these people? Perhaps others see the value in the style of the show and nuances of the writing. I am not one of them.
Totally camp but loved it!
Just got partially through Episode 3 of Season 1 and stopped it to go do something else. Then I said to myself "Why am I watching this?" "Succession" has all the hackney tropes about rich people - especially rich NY'ers - being so 'different' from us because they're more uncouth, more rude, more spoiled and more ruthless than 'real' people. I just don't buy it. This is simply cheap story telling using cartoon characters in real estate porn-like settings. I found "Succession" to be a sooo predictable dramedy that will be neither very dramatic nor very funny. I could easily fall in to watching "Succession" as a guilty pleasure, but there is so much more worthy TV out there to watch.
Though some parts can be dramatic- between the nuanced characters and some truly shocking plot points (that finale…), wow this is a well-written season of TV. The Roys may know big words, but they will always be children as long as Logan is around.
It's absolutely incredible. Reviewers saying it's comedy are off-base: you can't categorize this show. It's witty, uncomfortable, often devastating, and most importantly brilliantly crafted. It's hard to think of a superior show on HBO (or elsewhere). Watch it now.
Gripping. Multilayered, and funny. One of the best shows to come out in the last few years.
It's supposed to be a comedy but most of it isn't very funny. The writing relies on cheap sex and foul language vs. witty prose. Just weak overall.
All the characters are so loathsome but so compelling! You just want all their chickens to come home to roost 😉
