It is a punchy, spiky but cerebral few hours which recognises that the experiment is evolving and there is more work to do. Go to Full Review

On its own, The American Experiment would be a good primer on the American Revolution... But compared to some recent docuseries about the revolution, it just doesn’t go deep enough. Go to Full Review

dave B @RT51811019 Jul 30 Excellent. Learned some new things. Interesting look behind the scenes. Highly recommended See more Don S @dsstearns Jul 19 The history is decent. However, the commentary by current and former politicians really sinks this series. Our founding fathers would give this two big thumbs down. These politicians’ words ring hollow, as they represent the aristocracy of modern politicians. They put on a good act, but average Americans know they serve only themselves. I would give this series 4 out of 5 if it eliminated all these hypocritical politicians, both parties. See more Elise P @RT63317176 Jul 18 As someone who thoroughly enjoys history, episodes one through three were well done. I genuinely enjoyed the historical production, and I thought it was a nice touch adding different political figures commentating. With that being said, episodes four and five, I couldn't even finish because the first few minutes were a political agenda. Instead of discussing the Constitution, in an informative way, it turned into "let’s reframe how our entire government is formed, and abolish the electoral college" nonsense. I absolutely expected the political left narrative, but for once I just wanted to listen to a historical documentary, without a secret agenda. Sigh. See more S K @RT91688456 Jul 17 Netflix bragged about this series in a variety article exclaiming that they were so proud of the series using a full 17 minutes of generative ai 'enhanced footage' however, perhaps rather then being worried about using the series to promote ai they should have been more worried about the over quality of the finished project. This series fails in that it makes a bare minimum effort to tell the story of America's history. Paired with it's visuals that remind me heavily of the cgi backgrounds used for Zack Snyder's Justice League, it makes for a very boring experience. It's not the worst thing I have watched, but there are just so many series who have just knocked this concept out of the the park, and frankly I would expect a piece intended to be dedicated to the 250th anniversary of our country to really go all out. Save your time and pick something else up. My recommendations: "Hamilton" on Disney + or "Drunk History" Those options are much more impactful. See more Jason C @Chabden Jul 15 I was cautiously optimistic to watch this documentary about the beginning of our country. Netflix, Tom Hanks $ involvement, and the list of "experts" completely made this a left wing propaganda series. Very unfortunate. Can we just get something that's not bias anymore? Do not recommend. See more Nick L @RT01376817 Jul 14 As a lover of history, I was genuinely excited for The American Experiment. But the political leaning of the series is noticeable right from episode one. Unsurprising given Netflix's corporate bias. Instead of an impartial look at our nation's foundation, the series immediately signals a modern agenda, regularly steering the focus toward contemporary politics to target Donald Trump and even the Electoral College. Because when I watch a documentary detailing the birth of the United States, of course I expect interviews with Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, and Hillary Clinton, alongside random reminders of January 6th. There is a time and place for analyzing modern political issues. But shoehorning highly partisan messaging into what appears to be a historical documentary makes the series feel less like an honest lesson and more like poorly veiled propaganda.
