A very entertaining romp with a fantastic performance from Maggie Gylenhall. Having Franco in one of the lead roles is a bit of a problem for me as he comes across as quite slimey, and with the subject matter and what is going on in Hollywood at the moment, it feels a bit wrong to have him in this part. If you can get past this then it's definitely worth a watch. One thing I have to ask-did people dress like this in the 70s? Whenever there is a film/show in this era then it's like the costume designers collectively lose the plot and dress people up in some badass gear. But seriously, DID PEOPLE DRESS LIKE THIS!
Plodding pace and some poor casting. Watchable but not recommendable.
A powerful character drama from David Simon that remains highly watchable its entire runtime.
EXCELLENT!!!!!! James Franco is brilliant.
I binged watched the first season and want to set my self on fire for wasting so much time on this piece of garbage. There is a great story here but instead of using smart storytelling, writing and acting, they decided to capture their audience with porn. And not even high quality soft core porn. Yucky Maggie Gyllenhall "The Secretary" icky porn. Bleah.
It's hard to get past the constant, gratuitous smoking by every actor, not to mention the blatant marlboro product placement. another sell-out movie to the tobacco industry.
Really enjoyed this show. Really good characters, amazing dialogs and dense atmosphere. Intelligent and fun to watch!
Excellent - very well acted. Each episode is a trip through the 70's underbelly of New York and you end each episode feeling that little bit more seedy and dirty.
As with 'The Wire', David Simon keeps you interested in the characters.
I have to love this show. You just never know what is coming. I can not wait for more, more, and more.
