This six-part adaptation of Gerald Durrell's "My Family and Other Animals" and its two sequels features Keeley Hawes as Louisa Durrell, a widow who moves her family from England to the Greek island of Corfu in 1935. The miniseries -- inspired by the real-life adventures of Durrell's family -- also features Josh O'Connor as eldest son, Larry; newcomer Callum Woodhouse as son Leslie; Daisy Waterstone as teenage daughter Margo, and Milo Parker as 11-year-old Gerry. Alexis Georgoulis, Yorgos Karamihos and Ulric von der Esch round out the cast.

This is not a period piece, though the sense of year and place are immense: the ironies, heartbreaks, embarrassments and emotional spayings are urgently recognisable today to anyone who's ever been part of a family. Go to Full Review
Sam Wollaston Guardian 04/26/2017
It is sweet, and charming, and pretty, and funny; not too funny, or dangerously so, or challengingly so, but just gently funny. Go to Full Review

Camilla Long Sunday Times (UK) 03/27/2018
You wouldn't find subplots as bad as Margo's soap sculpture and Larry's broken leg in, say, Corrie. But it's difficult to get angry with this show; to hate it would be like hating a yellow Labrador. Go to Full Review
