Hollis Shaw, a famed cook and best-selling author known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste and warm demeanor, suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis' picture-perfect life -- her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter and her growing pursuit of validation from her fans. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, the stars will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.

Just a good, old-fashioned character drama that’s an easy and escapist watch. It’s not trying to do too much. Go to Full Review

When the show works, it’s because it earnestly honors female friendships and the difficulty of maintaining them as you grow older. It’s not exactly a recipe for a successful series, but The Five Star Weekend still makes for a satisfying one-time meal. Go to Full Review

Even though the series tackles grief and some heavy secrets, it’s surprisingly joyful. There’s laughter, dancing, stunning seascapes, and a chic, cozy atmosphere that will make you want to book your own transformative girls’ getaway. Go to Full Review

I really liked The Five-Star Weekend. It’s funny, sassy, and so refreshing to have a character-driven series about female relationships that centers the work it takes for friendship to work. Go to Full Review

You can laugh a little, maybe cry a little, and you should be able to recognize the types of people we’re introduced to. The cast alone was enough to get me interested. I was entertained in exactly the way I... Go to Full Review

Angelina L @Angelina2025 8h I think if I hadn't read the book, I would've given this a higher rating. The differences between the book and the series were distracting. My recommendations for others: read the book or watch the series, don't do both. See more Linda C @RT79924336 21h The 1st episode wasn't great, but the show did improve, and I ended up enjoying it. I love Jennifer Garner and the rest of the cast did well. See more Chris B @cbarr 22h Overall, it was a pleasant show. See more Bonnie T @RT93891261 22h If they are going to base a show on a book, it should follow the book. Every few minutes my sister yelled, “No!!” because it was different from the book. If you haven’t read it, it might be ok but not great. Stay away if you’ve read the book! See more Lee M @RT46776270 1d With this cast we were hoping for a better show. After 10 min, my wife asked "How long is this?" After 30 minutes she said "I’m going to empty the dishwasher, you don’t need to stop it." I probably would have stuck it out for the entire episode but since we clearly weren’t going to watch the whole series, why bother. Disappointing because I have enjoyed Ms. Hilderbrand’s books. See more T H @RT59453992 1d This was fun to watch. Women characters written with complexity and depth, while still heartfelt, funny, and relevant to today's experience of diverse womanhood is a joy to witness. This series has a Nancy Meyers, Nora Ephron feel about it's relationships, upper middle class / lower upper class setting as it flows through laughter and sadness. You know how you can tell when a woman wrote, produced and or directed a story about women and girls and it's just more honest? This is that. I'm not usually into shows about groups of women friends because the women are usually a fetishized depiction and I can't get past the deeply instilled (perhaps unconscious) disrespect. This series changes that. Congrats to all involved in creating this series. See more Read all reviews
