The Goode Family: Season 1 Photos
Tv Season Info
"Goode" is never savage. There's even some wisdom here. The characters? Green but never mean and all likable.
The biggest structural problem, though, is that The Goode Family moves very, very slowly. As in: literally slowly. You will notice... the way The Goode Family contains long, unnecessary pauses, as if there genuinely just wasn't enough script.
None of this is likely to have anywhere near the staying power of King of the Hill, which hung in there for 14 seasons on Fox. But as a summertime diversion, The Goode Family turns out to be perhaps just good enough.
On the other hand, for all of its mocking, "The Goode Family'' still treats its main characters kindly.
I think "The Goode Family" finds the Goodes... to be just as well-meaning as Hank, but they're so intense (if often confused) in their beliefs that it becomes too easy to laugh at all of them - and more difficult to laugh with them.
Maybe someday there will be a good TV comedy that lampoons political correctness. But "The Goode Family" is not that show. It's just bad.
The premise is perfect, and so is the execution -- especially the details.
[A] heavy-handed satire of political correctness that makes Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head look like a paragon of subtlety.
The company finally has produced a decent show. Let's see how long it lasts.
Instead of incorporating actual humor into the show, [Mike] Judge presents an irritatingly obnoxious, overly liberal family and expects that we'll simply laugh at the absurdity. Instead, it's mostly just irritating.
