Critic Reviews for The Hardy Boys Season 1
All Critics (7) | Top Critics (2) | Fresh (5) | Rotten (2)
While thankfully more innocent than say the CW's sexed-up Nancy Drew and Riverdale adaptations, the show still wildly shifts in tone, seemingly caught in between a kids' detective show and something much darker.
It could use some more twists and turns, and maybe a few additional wisecracks; nevertheless, in this new series, The Hardy Boys' magnetic appeal is intact.
There are so many shows The Hardy Boys is trying to be, from Supernatural to Stranger Things to Riverdale, and it succeeds at emulating none of them.
The Hardy Boys would have deeply benefitted from a more surprising and complex conclusion, but the journey itself is the perfect deliverance of eerie nostalgia and fun moving puzzle pieces for an audience to solve.
The Hardy Boys has a lot of strong elements that it never makes full use of it. But if you can suspend your disbelief and don't mind the slow pace, you might be able to enjoy its cinematic B-level mystery.
The chemistry between Campbell and Elliot will be enough to keep people tuning into this version of The Hardy Boys.
Hulu's The Hardy Boys is a satisfactory viewing, and while it is not binge-worthy, it ensures that the adaptations remain strong in our pop culture.

Jan 03, 2021A refreshing, family-friendly show that's very enjoyable. My wife, 11 year old son, and myself all have enjoyed watching this show and I hope it continues. Very nice that there aren't any social agendas, vulgarity, or inappropriate situations.

Dec 11, 2020I WANT to like this sooo bad, but it took until the 4th episode to get decently good. I tuned into be scared. I think this was greenlit during a "what could be cool like Stranger Things?" meeting. It seems like very loose direction. I'm having a hard time believing they are even brothers. I tuned in for scares not family cares.

Dec 09, 2020I never read the books, but really enjoy this show. The acting is really good also..
-
Dec 09, 2020Oh yeah 4.5 too much for the show but this story had good run and I possible that season 2 will be great since they had lay out for that season just to make it good story and characters are ready also the actor . Hulu does have many too take a second chance but this worth it don't do mistake like Hulu did for little fires everywhere . But this show is charming and mistry many twist but you see that coming but some genus and some oh cool but overall series is must watch if it really coming for season 2 if not it will definitely not going to worth the time that much it needs to give .

Dec 07, 2020I wasn't sure how much I was gonna like it at first, but I love it! It's so good. Like yeah the age difference change is weird, but they still kinda felt like the Hardy Boys. I like the idea of Laura being more involved in the story, but I wish she didn't have to be killed to get it. Cause that's a little too close to "fridging" her, you know? And it's not overally edgy. Finally! I'm sick and tired of people thinking edgy means good writing, it's doesn't like 99% of the time. It's a bit darker but it maintained the Hardy Boys vibe. The teenagers also act like teenagers, it's a breath of fresh air tbh. The soundtrack is awesome, I wish I had all the clothes, and I am crushing big time on multiple people if I'm being honest. Callie, most importantly, was the Callie I always wanted. I can put the changes aside and say this is a Hardy Boys story. More importantly, it makes me wish that the CW never went near Nancy Drew. What they did was total crap, this is amazing. The second that show gets cancelled I want a Nancy Drew show made by this team, they could do it right. Not something that crams in half-assed references and calls it a day, something that can change the tone while maintaining the vibe. Most of the charactes are in character. It's fun! That's all I want from a show, it's not a boring-ass overly-dramatic overly-sexualized show. It's actually good and any drama feels natural. I can go on for hours, I love it. and Hulu if you're reading this, think about what I said with Nancy, PLEASE!

Dec 05, 2020If you think of it as an original show, it's pretty good. Interesting characters and a dynamic. Great balance of mystery, drama and a hint of comedy. However for a show about the Hardy boys there's not a lot of development of the relationship between the brothers, more like their individual storylines that happen to cross into each other, and the things do at times feel a little stretched out story wise.

Dec 05, 2020The Hardy Boys: Season 1 is overall ok. With a talented young cast and an update to characters, the show is a welcome addition to the scarce media focused on these two brothers. The only issue personally found is with the needless change in the age gap between Frank and Joe. In the books, it is a year or two difference making the boys able to relate with one another a lot better. Here, it is four years and their dynamic is stilted because of it. Aside from this, the show keeps the overall feel right, even if it is a bit slow. Overall, it's an acceptable entry and can give fans something that is Hardy Boys.

Dec 04, 2020Okay. Some parts were cliche but the shows was a wow to me.
