Critic Reviews for The League Season 7

All Critics (16) | Top Critics (6)

The League uses its fan service as a vocabulary. It's easy to understand the plot without this knowledge, but it's funnier if you get it. In short, it's better to be in the league than out of it.

To get to the humor, though, you have to endure an endless stream of bathroom jokes. The first episode here revolves around a literal bathroom joke.

The League is definitely back, and this final season is primed to delight the long-standing fans that have been keeping up since the very beginning. Even if there aren't many of us.

From the tone of the first two episodes, all indications are that Schaffer and his wife Jackie are looking to shake things up in this seventh season.

Needless to say, it was a mess. None of it made sense and frankly, it was as if husband-and-wife creators Jackie and Jeff Schaffer gave the cast full, unhindered reign over the final half-hour of the series.

Even though it leaned heavily on callbacks, old gags, and player cameos, the reliable group dynamics, snappy one-liners, and organic cast chemistry still made it comedically accessible to series newcomers, while treating loyal fans.

If anything, the varied antics and comfortable jokes courtesy of the six main players proved that this final season is business as usual for the series.

Sep 11, 2015 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

This is a promising start to The League's last season. While it is in no way as youthful and funny as its earlier episodes, it demonstrates that the powers that be behind The League understand what the show's fans find funny and what they don't.

Sep 10, 2015 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

Admirably kept up its commitment to portraying terrible people doing terrible things for seven seasons straight, and its finale made sure to remind its audience just how atrocious -- and, lucky for us, how hilarious in their atrocity -- these people are.

This is The League at its prime: showcasing each of its members complete dickheadery, while somehow also reinforcing why these guys actually do stay friends with each other.

With so many through lines and call-backs, people who've stuck with show from the beginning will be rewarded with in jokes for days.

The first two episodes packed a serious punch the likes of which the show has not done before, but those punches are executed to perfection.

Audience Reviews for The League: Season 7

still some really funny parts but much more inconsistent and feels forced and goofy sometimes (about 2 viewings)
  • Jan 13, 2018
    All about the long con.

This show is funny and over the top, and that's why it is fun. I don't really find any of the storylines or characters to be compelling but I laughed at their crazy antics. If you enjoy raunchy or gross out humor, this show is fun, regardless of how much you know about football. I felt the last season were certainly the weakest but overall the show is consistent in quality. It's funny and goes by quickly and I enjoyed watching it. It's not the best show I've seen, but it is a funny and enjoyable one.

I'm still reeling from how horrible this season was. No rhyme or reason, and the last three episodes were completely idiotic.
  • Jan 17, 2016
what started out as another strong season, faded grotesquely into the final few episodes. the bathroom humor and Rafi's antics were over the top (in an annoying way) including a full-length animated cartoon with him and Rogen. a disappointing send off to an otherwise smartly written comedy.

Really disappointing season. Should it even still be called The League? What happened to the league? What about Kevin and Jenny's bet? Who's heading for the playoffs and who's heading for the Sacko? And the product placements are the most obnoxious I've ever seen.

Wow. The League used to be decently clever. It has turned into slapstick garbage. Very disappointed in the new season 7.

It's no surprise this show is finally ending it's run, but the crude humor will keep me watching all the way through the final Shiva Bowl. When will Taco get his own show?
