I was pretty bummed when this was canceled after the second season. A very unique and meandering (in a good way) series.
This show has an unique and intelligent story-line. It's suspenseful and keeps you coming back for more. I was so bummed the series was canceled. I'm hoping that it will be picked up again.
wtf how did people not like this?!
This is the most amazing series I've ever watched. i really felt like this show spoke to me on SO MANY levels. It's a true piece of art that I'm not even sure can be replicated. The acting was superb and the story is just amazing, most shows I put on as background noise while I work or do dishes, this show every time I watch it- I put 100% my attention on it.
I really enjoyed this show. It kept me wondering.
I did not like the school shooting at the end.
Type - supernatural mystery / thriller; kidnap / hostage.
Acting - natural/method with no camp. Characters - realistic, imaginative, and compelling.
Action / set piece scenes - no.
Plot - incomprehensible and deep. As if the plot is just a scaffold for story-telling and suspense. Somehow the understanding the plot for audience doesn't matter. Yet characters move on; each motivated by their goals.
Status - 2 seasons. Cancelled
The OA Season 1 is more a prologue than a full season of plot and character development. It makes for an interesting watch, but not a fully satisfying one. A couple episodes feel like treading water, since they are flashbacks to events where we already know the outcome. However, the show is undeniably unique, and it's hard not to admire its daring. Yeah, sometimes it's a bit TOO weird, but I prefer that to a cookie cutter show any time. My favorite part of the show is, despite the fantastical subject matter, the characters feel very real. There is a surprising lack of supermodel-looking actors; the characters look and act like real people, and the actors fit their roles like gloves. The OA avoids most cliches, even while depicting a high school, and eschews the ham-fisted tokenism of a lot of shows trying to be "diverse." After watching so much polished, dumbed down entertainment, it is refreshing to see a show that says, "This is us, we're unabashedly weird, and if you don't like it you can find another show." The show just needs to reach its second season before the momentum really gets going.
Pure brilliance.. such an original story. Wow. was blown away by it. Just incredible story telling from amazingly talented writers and a believable talented cast! Just Wow
The best thing about The OA's part 1 is that the actors n makers are pretty classy n critical about what they are trying to accomplish. Well....woaaala they did it in a strangest n strongest way. Leaving us with strange theories and questions....a must watch indeed
So original, so beautiful. I need that violin piece in my life
