You might need to put the central heating up while watching this eight-part Icelandic thriller; it has the potential to make your core temperature drop a couple of points. Go to Full Review

The Valhalla Murders is enthralling stuff, the contrasting grit and gleam of the interiors and exteriors -- and even of the actors themselves -- weaving a visual spell of its own. But series creator Thordur Palsson knows how to set a fuse for a slow burn. Go to Full Review

As a mystery, the series does tread familiar ground. This drama doesn't set out to reinvent a genre. What keeps you compelled, with as much force as the mystery, is the attention paid to minor characters. Go to Full Review

Even halfway through it hasn't quite got going: despite the dramatic backdrops, and a few stalwart performances, the word is glacial. Go to Full Review

Andrei D 11/07/2024 Very good, very noir, solid acting, could have used one more episode to drive home the final twists See more David J 04/26/2023 A suspenseful plot that keeps you engaged. Very well acted. Iceland provides a surreal backdrop. Looking forward to second season. What happened to Petur? See more 02/15/2022 Did I miss something? I'm not really sure why this show has such a high reviews. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. It's not something special either. It's the same old police procedural you've seen a hundred times. See more jon s 01/16/2022 Decent whodunit crime drama with atmospheric direction. It's let down by a drawn-out pace and some extraneous subplots. The two leads' "dark secrets" are pointless and over-dramatized. The main story is fine, but the series would've been better if it trimmed the fat to 4-5 episodes instead of 8. See more 11/27/2021 The visuals and cinematography are stunning and Iceland is really the star of this series. The series itself is quite interesting, taut, well acted and suspenseful. See more 10/17/2021 By-the-numbers scandi-noir. Treats audience like idiots. If you're a sophisticated viewer, you will be disappointed. Has all the usual tropes, but done with little conviction. Example: Cop 1: "This murder must have something to do with the Valhalla School." Cop 2: "Yes, it must. All the people killed so far worked at the Valhalla School. That must mean something. Cop 1: "Yes it must mean something. I bet someone at the school killed these people." Cop 2: "Yes, that makes sense. It must have something to do with the Valhalla School. Otherwise, why would all four dead people all have worked there." Cop 1: "Yes, right, so it must have something to do with the Valhalla School." See more Read all reviews
