What to Know

Critics Consensus

What The Westies lacks in originality, it makes up for with a sturdy crime story, compelling characters, and a cast that knows how to handle the genre.

It’s a calculated cross between Peaky Blinders and The Sopranos. While it hasn’t immediately risen to the level of the former let alone the latter, it’ll fill the time until the next season of MobLand. Go to Full Review

It’s a period piece, about a transitional period. It’s also painfully derivative as regards organized-crime dramas. But aren’t they all? Go to Full Review
Chris Vognar Boston Globe Jul 14
The show never shies away from a big gesture. But Simmons provides a good center of gravity, Welliver brings fine pathos and regret, and the music, from the needle drops to the raucous opening theme from Dropkick Murphys, is excellent throughout. Go to Full Review

This series is an entertaining but gory entry into the mob crime show genre. Go to Full Review

The Westies is a full-bodied gangster/mob series that is well aware of its genre and its audience, which is ideal for viewers who can't get enough of these types of true organized crime stories. Go to Full Review

The Westies is a servicable crime drama thanks to the performances of Simmons and Welliver and the potential for their stories to yield interesting drama. The rest of the show is OK, but nothing that will stick in our minds after we watch the series. Go to Full Review

Chris T @RT79228608 6d Westies is ok, the show is watchable, but the character Mickey Flannigan (Stanley Morgan) should have been killed off in the first episode, this guy is a Terrible 'actor'.. See more Raquel R @Raquel731 Jul 26 Almost everyone talks in that cliché NY mob accent fitting the stale mob tropes, and to mix it up with politics doesn't make more interesting, either. J. K. Simmons is a one-trick-pony, and I've seen that already, too. See more Mollie R @RT56789032176 Jul 24 I can’t tell if it’s a dark comedy that’s mildly funny or an attempt at a gritty crime drama that’s isn’t quite hitting the mark. It’s nice to see Titus Welliver I like him. See more Marcie S @Sandy87 Jul 23 I love Mob drama and so far it is good. It might not be historical accurate but I am fine with it. See more B L @Blinvill Jul 22 Better than average series but not ground breaking with the cast on hand. See more Joey B @RT47694173 Jul 19 Im enjoying this series as much as I did Mob land & gangs of London See more Read all reviews
