The historical backdrop is not really part of the story, although it is alluded to, and really not relevant. It shows the carnage, confusion, tragedy and reality of war. It also shows the humanity of citizen soldiers doing their best under impossible odds. There were too many threads, and not all of them resolve, but then again, that is the fog of war. This series is a much dramatized representation of the struggle that the main characters go through. Well made, with sufficient character building, believable settings and plenty of action -though the ending leaves much to be desired. It's certainly less factual than other war mini series, patriotic and perhaps even lauding the IDF more than needed, but it certainly shows the anticipation, fear, bravery, thoughts and actions of a set of very diverse characters.
