Toss into the mix French cinematic royalty like Tcheky Karyo and Sandrine Bonnaire, and you have an absorbing historic piece that blends the epic and the intimate. Go to Full Review

But while not perfect, these women are strong, and push against the patriarchal systems that persist despite the crisis in which they find themselves. Go to Full Review

... this isn't a series about war, it's a soap. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It isn’t exactly War and Peace, though it may be a bit Les Misérables, but Women at War is a comfortably bingeable watch, and has its sinews stiffened by all-round strong performances from its excellent female cast. Go to Full Review

The characters are either brave, kind, and selfless with a few flaws, or cynical and cruel villains. But the biggest problem is that Women at War, just like The Bonfire of Destiny, thinks it’s smarter and more feminist than it actually is. Go to Full Review

Lorne doesn’t hesitate showing is the horrors of war. There’s more than enough blood, or holes blown through people’s heads, to show that, even 109 years ago, the people on the front lines see things that scar them for life. Go to Full Review

Not Y @Notyours Jun 7 Apparently RT says my post has profanity, so I deleted my freedoms. I just don't understand portraying Nazism with porn. See more Ella S @Kelstos Dec 26 This film is definitely worth watching, though perhaps not while in an anxious state. The historical perspective through the experience of women from four disparate backgrounds may be fictional, but the details are authentic. We so rarely see films about women who have served on the frontlines. Rarer still are there films dedicated to featuring women who work, whether their place of work is a factory, a brothel, or a hospital. This film captures vividly the lives of women who are too often controlled and abused by the social hierarchies ruled by men who would thwart them at every turn. This series highlights women who strive for and achieve autonomy. As for the cinematography, I would have enjoyed watching this on the big screen. Filming is very well done. And those break aways to the vistas are absolutely essential for emotional relief. I also enjoyed seeing towns in the Vosges department. The scenery alone is beautiful. See more Jaded R @RT55861735 Sep 16 Excellent acting and cinematography. Held my interest intently right up to the end, but then [spoiler alert] the show concludes without telling us what happens to most of these fictional characters. If I invest 8 episodes of my time in something which is clearly fictional (though does an excellent job of portraying historical circumstances), I think the writers could have given us a handful of minutes to wrap up the plot for each of the main characters. Thus, I can't recommend it, as I'd be upset if someone recommended it to me, without telling me that I'd never know how it ended.
