Thomas L @RT60786600 May 25 Probably the worst second world war documentary ever produced. If you prefer your documentaries to be a simple visual spectacle of mass consumer slop then this is for you. Unfortunately there is almost zero narration. It is a series of videos with slogans and one liners. The documentary treats the war as a simple conflict of warring nations. The narrator uses phrases such as the 'German Army attacked civilians' in Russia. Attacked is putting in light. The German army has been proven to be complicit in the systematic erasure of entire communities under orders from their superiors and in coordination with the SS. Much of the other sections of the documentary fall into typical tropes by Americanising the conflict while simultaneously whitewashing the German military and minimizing the holocaust. Total garbage. Also the Japanese did not fear the US navy. They were overconfident and trying to prevent a multi front naval war against the US and Royal Navy in south east Asia. See more Barry L @BarryLynn May 14 I am in Episode 3 and I find the photography visually revealing. However, the Battle of Midway "lasted" about 5 minutes, and completely glossed over the strategy employed by the US Navy and missteps of the Japanese in exposing their carriers to the US Navy Airforce dive bombers. That's a shame! History is not just pictures, it's the details of what made events turn out they way they did. In the case of the Battle of Midway, this was a crucial battle that changed the course of the Pacific Naval War. One wonders what else was left out? See more Ron M @RT49426016 02/20/2025 Like much of today's films and TV production, this product contained excellent visual content. But, the history presented contained inaccuracies and lacked any semblance of depth. It was written at a middle-school learner level assuming the audience had little or no knowledge of actual events. See more Alex K @RT31182506 02/16/2025 The documentary was an absolute standout, not just for its breathtakingly vivid colorized footage but also for the sheer depth of rare, never-before-seen clips that brought World War II to life in a way I’ve never experienced. The music and sound design were on another level—haunting, powerful, and perfectly timed to elevate every moment, making battle sequences and historical events feel immediate and visceral. Unlike many other WW2 documentaries that recycle the same footage, this one unearthed fresh material that added new layers to familiar stories, making it a must-watch for anyone with an interest in the era. See more dave b @RT51811019 06/23/2024 I was born in 1948 and am a WW2 junkie. Excellent. Lots of footage that I had not seen before. Good narrator. Excellent colorization. See more Read all reviews
