  • Spanish director Juan de Orduña began his career as a stage actor while studying for a law degree. In 1925, Orduña won his first film role, in La Casa de la Troya/College Boarding House, and established the production company Goya Film with Florián Rey the following year. Though he made his directorial debut in 1927 with Un Aventura de Cine/A Cinematic Adventure, Orduña would not become a prolific filmmaker until after the Spanish Civil War. He subsequently became known for his period melodramas, such as Locura de Amor/Madness of Love (1948) and El Último Cuplé/The Last Song (1957), which achieved international popularity, especially in Spanish-speaking countries. Orduña started working in television in the late '60s, making a popular series of zarzuela adaptations, some of which were released to theaters. Orduña's last film, Me Has Hecho Perder el Juicio/I Lost My Judgment Because of You, was released in 1973.
