Grew up believing that his father was actor Robert Vaughn until a paternity test proved otherwise; he later legally changed his name to Matthew Allard de Vere Drummond to reflect his parentage. Godfather is Peter Morton, movie producer and cofounder of the Hard Rock Café. In 2004, made his directorial debut with Layer Cake, a thriller about a retiring drug dealer who's forced to take another assignment. Was set to direct X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) but left the project due to script concerns; eventually directed the prequel X-Men: First Class (2011). Is color blind.
