Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Like most Forsyth films, Comfort and Joy is warm and gentle without being cloying or maudlin. And it somehow avoids off-putting levels of cynicism. Like its main character, Alan, it's just the right amount of not important.

A perfect film for New Year's celebrations with its messages about personal renewal and starting afresh.

Audience Reviews for Comfort and Joy

Sort of a cross between Overboard and It's a Wonderful Life. It is predictable. The acting is fair. Watchable as well as forgettable.

I was amazed when Forsyth made a better film than his 1983 classic Local Hero but here it is. Alan Bird is wonderful as a DJ caught between rival ice cream families. So funny, sad and sweet.
