Audience Reviews for The Great Waltz
Beautiful music, standard script. The Vienesse Teardrop does well enough in her standard role of the long suffering put upon wife and as always she cries beautifully but Gravey is flat in the lead. The kind of picture where Strauss can compose Tales from the Vienna Woods just by taking an carriage ride through them and suddenly without any struggle whatsoever have the whole thing ready for a performance at the end of said ride! There is also quite a bit of operatic singing, if that's your cup of tea great all others beware.
Return with us now to those thrilling days in Vienna before the revolution and Johann Strauss (Gravet) doesn't want to be a banker but instead to write waltzes. His lifelong pal, buddy, and possible sweetheart is the long suffering, long ignored by him Rainer who simply wants to get married. Just as their plans start to meld along comes artsy artist opera soprano (Korjus, pronounced gorgeous, her only screen appearance ever) to "inspire" poor simple Johann. Even a dope like me was set to swaying by the Hollywood-juiced versions of some of the most well known music in the world and Korjus, the real star of this, is simply a vocalizing force of nature let loose and free.
