Luis D @Crealectician 2 days ago Jackson Curtis, a novelist with 500 readers, becomes the only one who both knows the truth (through the crank prophet) and has the practical nerve to act on it, helping to save humanity from extinction. The film quietly argues that the marginal writer is the person best placed to survive the end of a world, because he already lives outside its consensus and is used to improvising luckily. His authorship, his book, is what gets him onto the ark: Adrian, the scientist, has read it, and its argument about whether humanity deserves to survive becomes the argument that closes and opens the doors. A book read by 500 people changes the decision of the one person who matters for the world. This is the most underrated epic movie ever made, immense in scope but filled with savory little details: giraffes carried by helicopters or the Sistine crack running exactly between the two indexes of Adam and God. Emmerich here has the discipline of a humble filmmaker; he is here a Mega-Spielberg. John Cusack nei suoi anni di gloria tiene lo schermo perfettamente nei panni di un eroe ordinario, affascinante ma trasandato. The destruction, CGI, massive set pieces, and constant chaos make it incredibly entertaining despite the ridiculous premise. The story is predictable, the characters are thin, and the science and logic are often completely absurd. But honestly, that's part of the fun. Every event is over the top, they survive mountains of lava, huge earthquakes, tsunamis, massive sinkholes & weather trauma in every frame. Simply not believable it takes a good premise & cinematography to the edge over & over. It's just too much. It made me angry watching. As a spectacle of global destruction, it is an incredibly entertaining movie, packed with massive visual effects featuring collapsing cities and giant tsunamis. However, the plot is ridiculous, the science makes absolutely no sense, and the protagonists have an absurd amount of luck that shatters any sense of realism. See more Read all reviews
