Critic Reviews for Back in the Day

All Critics (9) | Top Critics (5)

[A] stale, schmaltzy and testosterone-drenched comedy.

Nostalgia needs to be grounded in something real, something true, in order for it to have any resonance. Otherwise, you're just left with a formula that was tired 20 years ago.

There are a lot of odious movies yet to come in 2014, no doubt, but they'll have to work to beat "Back in the Day" for awfulness.

Cloying and smug when it's not being unfunny and crass, the high school reunion comedy "Back in the Day" hits lows with a frequency that suggests a world-class sharp shooter or free-throw king.

Good for a couple of fart jokes and otherwise utterly forgettable.

There aren't many laughs along the way (unless you count fart jokes), nor is there any nostalgic value.

Audience Reviews for Back in the Day

A way better version of a National Lampoon straight to DVD film. It has plenty of sincere and well executed moments. And a few performances impress. Most notably Harland Williams, Isaiah Mustafa, and Nick Swardson. But there way too many overly juvenile moments that make this film fail at times. Also the soundtrack is fucking sweet.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's so unfunny that it could hardly be considered a comedy. At times you have to laugh out of sympathy for how bad the movie is. Absolutely nothing good about this movie. I cannot believe that we have had so many clichéd comedies like this and they can still get worse. An absolute waste of time and an excellent way to make yourself dumber.

Or How Did They Get Morena Baccarin? Basically what you would expect from a movie directed by Michael Rosenbaum. Did he and Harland Williams realize that they were remaking Sorority Girls? I mean, of course, it's not exactly the same, but all I could think about was, "where is Barry Watson when you need him?" Do you know what that does to a person's soul? When they are begging God for Barry Watson to be in this movie? Barry Watson! That's how bad this movie was.
